Overview:
At Claim Academy, we are launching a 14-week GIS Software Development course aimed at equipping students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the rapidly evolving field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and DevOps. We are seeking a passionate and experienced GIS DevOps Assistant Instructor to join our team and contribute to the success of our students.
Responsibilities:
Assist in Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the lead instructor and curriculum team to develop and update course materials, projects, and assessments related to GIS software development and DevOps practices.
Deliver Instruction: Conduct engaging and interactive lectures, workshops, and hands-on sessions to teach students about GIS software development tools, technologies, and best practices.
Provide Mentorship: Guide and mentor students in their learning journey, offering support, feedback, and encouragement to help them achieve their learning objectives.
Facilitate Labs and Projects: Lead lab sessions and project work, providing guidance on software development, version control, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and other DevOps principles.
Assess Student Performance: Evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, quizzes, and exams, providing constructive feedback and grading according to established standards.
Stay Updated: Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in GIS software development, DevOps, cloud computing, and related fields to enhance course content and delivery.
Support Administrative Tasks: Assist in administrative tasks such as tracking student attendance, participation, and progress, as well as contributing to program improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, GIS, Geospatial Sciences, or a related field.
- Proven experience in GIS software development, DevOps, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java, and GIS tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, or GeoServer.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Docker), and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and engage students effectively.
- Previous teaching or mentoring experience in a technical or educational setting is a plus.
- Certifications in GIS, DevOps, or related areas are desirable.
